I was tryin' just to catch em but found it quite hard!
But I'm clever, I knew just what to do,
'bout the mice and their afters, quite right yes, their poo
So I got me a kitty to scare em' away
but she'd just hide in the corner, cry out and pray:
'I'm afraid of those mice Lord, please help me out,
For they nip at my toes and they run all about'
'They bite at my nose, they really do Sir,
and they trip me up too! and then chew on my fur!'
I looked in the corner and felt sorry for her
So I bought her a rifle and she let out a purr
So she shoots from my window for all of the day
at the mice down below who giggle and say:
"You'll never shoot us we're too quick you see
we skip n' scatter, then we jump up with glee"
I said to myself, I'll give it a week
Cause the mice were still there and my yard it did reek,
I did'nt know that while I snuggled up in bed
Kitty and mice were scheming in their sweet little heads,
I woke up that morning and what did I see
Kitty with rifle pointed at me!
I could see the three mice were busy packing my bags
Even my designer clothes, complete with their tags!
Now, I'm homeless, I've got nowhere to be
While kitty and mice run about my house free
Last night while lying on a banch, I had a wonderful dream
of princes and castles with myself the Queen...
But I woke up this morning and let out a curse
My plight I didn't think, could get much worse!
A mouse, I could see, nibbling at my toes
And another looking down at me from the tip of my nose
I wanted to teach him a lesson and really let rip!
By swatting him away with one quick whip
and then I remembered how I lost my home
And I picked up a pen and wrote me this poem

Hi Isabella,
I felt a great sense of delight after reading this poem the first time and each time I've read it since. I love the story in your poem - it has a Dahl-like quality to it! The movement in you poem has an easy and gentle pace to it, so reading it is very pleasant. You have a lovely sense of fun!! Thank you for the chuckle I felt,
Warm wishes,

LOL - this gave me a good chuckle, you wrote it with excellent flair; i didn't find the lines stumbling, or overrunning in syllables at all, but rather it flowed right off the tip of the tongue - and after reading it, i had to go back and read it again

what else can i say; love the idea of the cat scheming with the mice, and the kitty crying out to the Lord to save her from mice nibbling on her toes was absolutely priceless; this was really funny, and I find that humourous poems can be quite hard to write, so well done you
thank you for entering

Super Cute!
This was hands down adorable! Thanks for playing along! -
Now THIS was worth reading! And I can identify totally. The last place we lived was overrun with mice and rats and our cat just watched! What did we do? We moved and left the next residents to deal with it. Maybe their cat is more effective than ours was.
A delightful read. (I've a spare room if you're still homeless. But no more cats and no rifles!) celtic queen
