Through foggy air I looked onto the bay.
My love is arriving here today!
I buy a single rose from a vendor.
From old Ireland did I send her.
I wait on the dock in coat and hat,
thinking about the six months that have passed;
earning a living in the factory
so I could send for my love to be with me.
I heard things weren't going well back home.
I loathed to leave her there alone.
But now I'm here looking onto the bay,
my love is arriving here today!
The ship settles in next to the dock
and I hear the chiming of the noontime clock.
Slowly the boarders of the ship come out.
My eyes are searching all about.
I look ahead and there she stands!
Finally here on American land.
They take her name and she runs to me.
I enfold her in my arms, happy as can be.
Through foggy air I looked onto the bay
because my love was coming home today.
I gave her the rose I bought from the vendor.
Away from me I shall never send her.
My love is arriving here today!
I buy a single rose from a vendor.
From old Ireland did I send her.
I wait on the dock in coat and hat,
thinking about the six months that have passed;
earning a living in the factory
so I could send for my love to be with me.
Author notes
Prompt 1
This is from the picture prompt of the man holding the rose. In fact, this is the first time I've ever been inspired enough by a picture to write about it. Admittedly this may not be one of my best poems but I wanted to do something light and happy for a change. Thank you for the inspiration.

I love this. It is so sweet and very well written. I love the story in it and behind it.
