Here are the days that were once foretold
Of legends and heroes and reaching the stars
Epic tales that were spun out of ancient deeds
Fighting demons and angels in a dark land
Of warriors and priests in blessed union
To exalt the one chosen above all
Sung in the praises to the one most high
Yet their faith was one of contemplation
Their beliefs hidden beneath hooded eyes
But the words that were spewed out of spite
Empty gestures and moments to fill up the plate
With donations of blood and the spoils of war
But a thought that still lingers
In the back of some minds
Is the thought of going home again
The thought of still going home
In far away fields of sweet barley corn
whispering tale of woes to an unforgiving sun
As they speak of a dark traitor's kiss
In this garden of silence filled with the screams
Of a forgotten and most trite lowly son
And a plea to a father whose pain was undone
Surrounded and comforted in pillars of light
To light the way of the world it was said
So what will you do when the end comes about
Will you still sail your ships upon stormy seas?
And the farmer turned soldier with his plow-share sword
Does he still dream? Does he still yearn
For to finally go home again
So it's written that folly is a man's affliction
And still he won't leave it alone
For folly is nothing but faith without hope
And it's time to go home again
Yes, it's time to go home again
Oh, lord set me free to just go home again
Unshackle this soul to go home again
Now the journey is long and I'm weary to the bone
I have seen much to be contrite and seek solace
From the trials of this world to the end of my life
I seek salvation in kind for my transgressions
So I may cross that river Jordan finally sin free
So I may bathe in it's crystal clear waters
And if we meet up again I hope that we may
To make amends for I'm filled with contrition
Lift up your eyes to the heavens above
I found the way to go home again
I have found the way to go home again...
