Harmony June 2008
Thoughts on Hallelujah
By Leonard Cohen
If six strings make a rainbow
And the colours all are true
Then God’s a living spectrum
Made up of me and you
Resonating, ambience
There’s no specific word
You’ve found what many, seek in vain
They call it “the lost chord”

It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift....
I salute you Leonard Cohen!

There are many men who have given up the search,
They all thought the last chord was a major,
they forgot about the minors.....
the small things....
they never realized that harmony takes more then one.
Your writing is always so real.....
so close to what seems to be your immediate thoughts at the time.
Spontaneous and beautiful....your work has always struck me like that...
this work hit a chord with me....
thats why i love keeping track of your work John...you strike me as a writer that carrys pen and paper...to jot down little jems....to build masterpieces....
It so applies here also.
God bless you
brother,
always,
Liam

Liam brother, I always look forward so much to your comments; your perception and the generosity in which it is given is truly humbling, you have been a great source of inspiration and friendship, one cannot put a value on such things!
On Leonard Cohen, well I dug that guy the first time I heard him, there is something about his chord stucture in this particular song that fills in a very important gap which I have not come accross anywhere else...and as you quite accurately point out, it is a minor that seems to do the trick
Again, it is usually the smallest things in life that we overlook as we seek the 'big picture' isn't it...?
Thanks for coming round I have missed you!
God bless you too my brother
And long may you run!

I did seek in vain,
I did find the spectrum of colors creating all that we see
so now when I look out in the world I see God's pointer is the rainbow John but it is so much more than that
it is all colors all the atoms and molecules, all of seen and unseen that is God.
it points straight to unity and harmony.
we are extentions of God, His Divine light holds us all together, but our minds so pulls us apart.
If six colors make a rainbow
and the colours all are true
then God's a living spectrum
made up and me and you
love this
God bless you my friend...

Your responses are always appreciated and looked forward to so much, they help me to recognise many sometimes subtle points I have overlooked, and reinforce my own words which I must confess are often written without fully comprehending them, perhaps that is divine inspiration, I hope so, but it reminds me that one person may dream, and another will interpret...
Thank you, your words mean a great deal to me
God blees you

Glad you enjoyed...
I've always found something very mystical in L.Cohen's songs, this one in particular, I regard it as a masterpiece, it's kinda like Mona Lisa's smile...
