Be Careful What You Ask For

Missing image
This is a different kind of addiction
Without pills or drugs
It’s how I know what I want
But it’s never enough
Feeling so worthless,
I become attached to a guy,
Whose only strong point
Is making me cry
I know that it’s wrong
Yet I can’t stay away
From the people who want
A fragile girl as their prey
I knew what he was doing
…but I ignored it all the same
After all, with love,
We all need someone to blame
For it’s a different type of addiction
With pills or drugs
It’s how we know what we want
But it’s never enough

I see this poem as being very bitter and resentful, sort of beating yourself up for not having the common sense to leave. I think the wording is wonderful. However, I don't really like that you italicized 'pills or drugs'. It kind of distracts from the poem.

i think its great that you made a great point that addictions arent just drugs and alcohol and such, theres love addictions and so many more.
the line "But it’s never enough" especially holds the power of want an addiction feels like!!!!!
    awesome poem,

This poem (even a prose even!) is very simple but it conveys what we've all wanted to say in relationships we're unhappy about. And love blinds our decisions and our actions, and we're blindsided by the fact that the men we love still love us. Do hope you're feeling better!

a feeling im sure many of us can relate to we pick men that we know are no good for us yet we turn the other cheek and take the shame and hurt that comes with the aftermath rejection and no worth are big issues in a womans life if we had more time to love ourselves we just might break that old habit of letting any man make us cry

this is written an an affective style. I enjoy the rhyme and that it tells a story. One that many will relate to. thank you for entering.
  • i'm pretty much in love with this piece. honestly, it's written so beautifully that i couldn't tear my eyes away until the very end. i like how you connected repeating lines with italics and bold, that really made the emphasis stand out even more. the rhyming was so flawless that i had to double-check to make sure i wasn't imagining it. that's difficult to do, really.

    this is excellent.
  • Ahhh Ernest I freaking loved this!! Amazinggg. Hah, I relate to THIS so perfectly. Ugh. Stupid boys. What the hell.
