The art of listening to Allah~

The art of listening to Allah~

Useless were all the words
everyone told me

Until I learned this art
of listening to God

I learned how to ignore the whispers
Of temptation

I joined such a race
between the mind
and the soul.

I became daring
To bathe in the truth
of the world of destruction
I built around me

I stepped back,
took a moment of silence,
looked at what Allah has given me

And now I happily perform
in this stage of life
with such an ease

My hopes carry me

And I am just like
a little shadow in the crowd
I behold myself
even in this mystery we call pain

I don’t let anything frighten me
because I know it is this path of sorrow
that brings me to where joy is ~

I have always thought faith was a personal mission that touched each of us in different ways. You have shown us your faith and it lights the page with the words. C

    Hi Ruby

I'm glad to finally make it to your poem here.

    'Listening to God'

    'I joined such a race
    between the mind
    and the soul.'

'Bang on the nail' (meaning most effective and successful) for me, it seems that these words carry the 'key', so good that you expressed this here. Well done my friend!

Salaam..wonderful poem...yes paths of sorrows take us nearer to Allah, if we remember Him that is (which we should). These paths are not easy, but we eventually emerge winner as I personally feel closer to God after each escapade of life...Good write and glad you found teh right path..Alhamdollilah!

I learned that the names of the men of Genisis from Adam, to Noah, create a sentence that is coherent and speaks to sorrow being the gift of life. It is, "Man is appointed earthly sorrow, but the blessed God shall come down, teaching, his death shall bring the despairing, rest.

This poem regards the ultimate triumph of innocenct courage over cynical cowardice and despair. It acknowledges God as the strength of the innocent, and reveals innocence to be disassociated from ignorance. Ignorance has no defense against temptation, but the word of God directs those who seek him to the path of righteousness. Striving to listen to God, one may learn the limits of lies, pain and sorrow measured against the infinity and eternity of his truth and the delight of his loving kindness.
This is a wonderful theme, beautifully and humbly expressed here.

Note: In line 11, is "bath" intended to read "bathe"?

I get Allah mixed up with Buddha and then Jesus will come along and say something that pleases me. Confucius makes things simple: love your neighbor and love your government. I bow to the east, make the sign of the cross and repeat my mantra - ohmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm till I get called by the nurse behind one of the doors.

I liked the last lines the most -

I don’t let anything frighten me
because I know it is this path of sorrow
that brings me to where joy is

Kahlil Gibran said, "The deeper sorrow carves into your soul, the more joy it can contain." We must pass through so much before we can identify and separate what we don't want from what we do. You captured that path and lesson well.

That was really beautiful... I can tell that there had to have been an expirence that inspired such words of dedication... I know everyone puts in a quote of the poem in there comments just to get more points... So I will just say that my favorite line was the last... You are completley right... We must allow ourselves to accept people... In order to find the good from bad... It is the same with life... We must embrace what true sorrow is to actually be sorry... and know that there are more obstacle ahead but eventually you will reach your destination... Great Write! Take care...
