Shadows of Men

The shadows of men
Have stalked the light
In graveyards and churches alike.
Terrifying though, the graveyards are,
Crosses reside with the criminals.
Angels dot the darkened hills.
The graveyard is mostly holy.
And Jesus stands above the rest
To guard his fallen children.
Salvation received by the few who believe
Condemnation awaits the rest.

Yet one true soul
Pierces them all
And draws a circle of salt.
Safe from corruption by demons and thieves
She’s ignorant to the shadows of men.
The cross she bears, she must protect
Though the sin of man calls to her.
Her throne must stay pure,
Her features angelic
To protect her Father’s children.
The heaviest burden
Ladens the oldest,
But the oldest
Always falls first.

Author notes

I'm ShadedRequiem, but anyway, this poem was inspired by this pic.
http://s59.photobucket.com/albums/g286/birdyank31/?action=view¤t=CrossGraveyard.jpg

It's about God sending his oldest child/angel to watch his children and make sure evil doesn't corrupt salvation, but in the end good always falls at least once. The reference to Jesus in the first stanza is about the statues in graveyards of Jesus.
