The big question

Jesus would say..

Look me in the eyes and ask:
When filthy, I begged on the sidewalk,
When ragged, I knocked at your door,
While I died in flea ridden prisons,
Could you possibly have done more?

Why won't you hear their cries?

The hungry, they die with hands empty,

The broken, are kicked while they're down,

The needs of a world filled with violence,

Just cause some to turn with a frown.

Remember; I do not miss a thing.

If you fail to heed their needs,

what then will be your plea?

For what you did for the least of them,

You did, or did not do for me!

Author notes

My thoughts turned to the parable of the sheep and the goats. I believe that the Lord is hurting for the neglected millions, and asking His children why so many of them choose to ignore such great need.

I do believe that Jesus is hurt to see his children suffer. However, I don't believe that it is possible to end all suffering. If there were no suffering, there would be no peace. It is not natural. But I also agree with your poem. There is more that each of us can do, maybe not half-way around the world, but certainly in our own community or sphere of influence.

Maybe all the suffering in the world might be for a reason. We might not see it now, and maybe we won't ever... but yes, just carrying on that faith is good enough sometimes no?

Beautiful poem here- it made me think. .

    Great job!

    I can

associate with what you have written. I ask the same question, often, when I take note of those around me, and also our war-stricken world. The first lines of each stanza read as a stanza within a poem. Be blessed. Frans

    Short and thought provoking

Although I do not class myself as religious or a Christian I liked this poem. The piece itself could be written about any onlooker of society today, and I find myself agreeing with its message. Working with the public so closely I see a lot of horrible things and do my best to make people's lives better or easier in times of stress.

It frustrates me to see people hurting others and I wish they knew the consequences of their actions... whether related to faith or another force...

Good luck for the contest if it's still going (this new AP confuses an older user like me lol)

    Take care
