I once looked in her eyes and saw the glow
of love deep in her heart but in the nick
of time she dropped her eyes and played the trick
of "hard-to-get" - not knowing that I knòw.
My love can be a candle burning low
at first that little flame would smoke and flick,
not yet consuming wax, just burning wick -
but when it hits the wax it bursts aglow!
Oh, let it my love be like that dancing fire
the licking flame, like burning, hot desire!
Alas! It lacks the glowing ember's light,
the whiff of smoke upon a wintry night;
Fearing the heat, I shiver as I hold
my stiff hands o'er a dead fire in the cold.

What a wonderful poem! I love line 4 especially "not knowing that I know". The least favorite part is line nine. You could, if you wish, take a small nip in it as such: "Oh, let my love be like that dancing fire". I assume that the word it might just be a misprint though. Again, what a wonderful poem!
