Black Blemish

The world has changed in these few years
Or perhaps, it’s only my view.
Stained by cynicism,
Soiled by blood,
Green mouths continue to chuckle;
Blue eyes still cry.
The tight hugging of flesh
Does little to bring me close
To whoever is in my arms.
For every fragment of ice
That is chipped from my heart
By the loving hands of emotion,
Apathy, pragmatism, greed, and fear
Replace it ten fold.
I am an entity unto myself.
I affect myself,
And I, alone, am affected by everything.
I cannot smile.
I cannot cry.
I cannot hate, nor can I love.
I am one of the black blemishes
In the white light of life.
