Unlikely cowboy
brave enough to ride the Evening Shade,
watching the fading sun settle
between the breaks
on a thickly forested trail
framed by nature's handiwork.
Tree-curtained stage,
set upon a soft green slope
beneath a pale blue sky,
a sparkling lake and
a lowing breeze his backdrop.
Peaceful man on a gentle scene
at one with the world he's gleaned.
He wears his Achilles' heart
on his sleeve,
his quiet way revealing
more than words.
Man and horse serene and strong,
sleek muscles rippling
in the evening light.
Natue wraps her arms around
and pulls them in.
And the cowboy tilts his head
to the last rays of the sun--
and the white velvet horse
drops his muzzle to the ground--
and the easy moment
slips into a memory.

Good job, extremely potent description. Quick nitpick I think it should be nature in 21.
My favorite lines:
He wears his Achilles' heart
on his sleeve,
his quiet way revealing
very nice use of the Greek myth. Solid rhythm to this piece too; it has a subtle build-up that doesn't overly emphasize but effectively attracts.
