Tonight is not my time--
it never is any more.
Things just aren't the same;
the stars look down at me and wink,
the sky is dark--
do you see my sky?
You aren't here for me,
the night creatures peep and chirp,
singing for all they're worth,
but not for me.
Cold fence at my back,
dark forest before my eyes,
while here in this splash
of milky light I sit,
frustrated, weary, wondering.
As the hollow sound
of the church bell chimes,
strange noises in the woods
speak of other times.
Times when you might have been willing
to be there for me;
times when I was the one you wished
could spark the fire--
I loved that fire.
