M. O. B.

(moment of birth)
7/4/08  8:09 PM

It was sixty years ago this minute
That the grace of God allowed me to breathe
A holiday just seven years in it
Was the country that young, or so it seems

On the verge of war, patriotism ?
Just five months three days before Pearl Harbor
Had our President looked in a prism ?
Or had our God clearly blessed F.D.R.

Having been taught to respect my elders
Born in a nation, deserves my respect
Over two hundred years she has held hers
A ship in the night that has not been wrecked

Perhaps she will live `til reckoning day
In the meantime God bless the U.S.A.

Author notes

Kevin asked us to wax patriotic; voila!
The Fourth of July has been a national holiday only since 1941

Excellent patriotic write Bob. No matter what happens, when it really matters, we all stand or fall together. Thanks for sharing and keep writing.
