Two steps

I took two steps,
my very first two,
and proceeded to
bash my head on a table.
Ten stitches later,
and a whole lotta love,
i decided to try again.

Over and over in my life,
first my mother supported me,
and then my wife.
They showed me i had value,
even when i couldn't see
the forest for all the trees
right in front of me.

I've learned the hard way,
never vicariously,
sometimes, barely surviving,
perched ever so precariously,
and i bashed my head
so many times i can't see
how i can still be.

I've lavished my love on them
and on all i meet,
because love IS strength,
and love is learning,
it makes us complete,
fills all our yearning,
and beets the hell out of the streets!

And now as a man, full grown,
i reap the love ten fold
for every compliment sown
I wasn't seeking reward,
for honestly they were given,
but it's sure strengthened me
and made me a happy living!

I think of my mom, my wife,
and pray to my God, Lord Satan,
that i give as good as i get!
Both in war and in love,
so no one will forget,
i care for all my fellow men
and the happiness they beget!+

To love our fellow beings, regardless of creed or colour, whether related or not, is a gift only some of us can truly take to. To love and protect those who gave of themselves in whatever capacity, and be appreciated for it, is a great gift received in return.

Well done and thank you for entering. You have shown an inner strength very rarely shown. Thank you.

I am glad that you care for your fellow men. It is nice when you feel and have that support mentioned in this piece.
My only suggestion is that the red might bother some people. You could make it like a black color or something that might be a bit easier on the eyes.
I wish you the best of luck in the contest!
