I slept through the night in
yesterday's clothes; so worn
I was when I'd gotten home
But now, how nice to sit out
early Sunday, before the
harsher heat of the day
Morning smokers still asleep;
only me, and one dark brown duck
standing upon neighbor's rooftop
Scratching himself with a foot;
black cat yawns as he saunters
across the parking lot
Cuban anoles brown as tree bark;
myriad shades of green
on a rich blue morning
Orange aloe blooms like
little bursts of fireworks;
grand agave
Asparagus fern sprouting, sheen of
new leaves, some eaten by insects,
a few squawking parakeets
Cooing dove atop the lamp post,
mockingbird surveying from a tree top,
yellow striped butterflies
Fluttering furiously, attracted
by bottlebrush blossoms
and my bright red T-shirt.
The call of blue jays,
and a woodpecker;
all the usual suspects.
Blue watering can filled with fresh rain;
seashell souvenirs washed, sun bleached,
some silvery underneath
A few fallen leaves tumble gently across
the asphalt; suddenly two awesome herons
glide by, so majestic yet silently
They leave me wondering if they
were an illusion, while I sit sheltered
by tender avocado leaves
Scribbling in my dollar journal,
printed with the palest pink roses,
trying to compose a poem
Befitting this sweet magnificence;
echoes of Emily Dickinson
"Some keep the Sabbath going to Church --
I keep it, staying at Home --
With a Bobolink for a Chorister --
And an Orchard, for a Dome --
A white ibis couple join the congregation;
crossing the street on spindly legs to
breakfast in the grass a mere few feet from me
Clearly, I've been indoors way too much
lately, hiding from heat and humidity;
last evening, also, was lovely
A pink and orange sunset
I saw on the way home from
a dull dinner obligation
And then a fantastic fireworks show
I had been told was relocated
but thankfully, no.
Wouldn't mind morning cup of joe,
just feel too lazy to make some
anyways, I'm feeling quite renewed!
Haven't seen a human being
yet awake from my own household
or around the neighborhood
Well, ok, I'll admit an airplane

so a few folks have woken.
Having written this rather sloppily,
I hope that I can accurately
transfer my script at the keyboard.
