Oh trunk that's knarled and twisted
what stories could you tell,
in forest dark and misted
what dark forces do there dwell.
A life that once gave cover
to the life that surged throughout,
is now left too uncovered
with no new life to sprout.
Some darkness has invaded
and stolen nature's charm,
what's left is now lost and decayed
a forest suffering great harm.
And will the darkness stay forever
is there no light for future's bloom
or will the ghostly fingers sever
and pay the piper with this gloom?

VERY good. I was so hoping someone would enter something along these lines. You did very well. Great description. Rhythm could probably be more precise, but all and all a really great job! It is truly poetic and very nicely done.
Thanks for entering!
