Valley of the Sun

Crescent upon the plains.
Going further than my gaze.
As far as the sky can go
the northern mountains seem to grow.

The sky turns orange
because a new day says so
From the Sierras in the distance
there is peace and ease.

The warmth the sun gives out
making the start and sprout.
Its zenith above two mountains
coloring orange and yellow again

Across the sky it flies.
A cloud of rainbows transcribes
Creating a magnificent shrine
from its brilliant shine.

It grazes into the west
for a place to settle and rest.
Right above the Buttes
A place to set its roots.

It is the driving
as opposed to just arriving
Through the valley of the sun
when the days starts and when
it is done.

Author notes

A poem about my drive on I99 from Yuba City to Sacramento with the buttes to the north and the Sierras to the south and the sun moving back and forth at an angle between them in the morning and at the dawn.
