I walk the cold, empty streets
of an unfamiliar city,
looking to learn it well.
the wind howls through the trees and down
out of the snow-covered mountains,
and ends in the sea.
I see you in a storefront,
in the groove of the sidewalk,
in the chirping of the crosswalk.
I feel you when I drink hot chocolate
and it warms my veins and your love
warms my heart.
You are as ever present as my
thermal leggings,
as my winter hat,
yet you are half a world away.
The distance is unreal to me still -
for I feel you in every moment,
with the pump of my heart.
