It's getting close to midnight
And the moon has yet to set-
It might be smart to get some sleep
But I'm not quite tired yet.
The stars are lighting up the night
And Orion's in the sky:
Of all the many constellations
He's a favorite of mine.
Outside my window, crickets sing,
Their song a constant hum;
Of all the lullabies in the world
It's one of the best ones.
A song I do not recgonize
Is playing on CD:
A slow, ornate piano track
That both is and isn't me.
It's getting on to midnight
And my eyes begin to close.
I think I'll put my pencil down
Before I begin to doze.
I put my pencil to the side
As my notebook closes on me;
In the morning, when I wake up
I'll put this on AP.

Hehe it sucks. I can't rhyme when I'm thinking coherently and at midnight it's near impossible. Very cheesy ending. I'm almost ashamed to put my name to this. (Which of course is the reason I'm putting it online for the world to see.)

^Think this line would flow smoother as "Before I start to doze."
Ending is very cheesy. Cut it off. I like the rest. It was personal to yourself but will resonate with other lovers of the summer night. I like the description of the sky and especially of the crickets. All in all I don't think it's a bad poem. Keep writing and rhyming. -
