Within a Brief Moment

Watching the night engulfed in black
Thinking of everything that I lack,
Caught up in all my selfish somethings
Realizing they amount to nothing.

The blast of a cannon shakes the night,
Followed by a colorful light
I forget all of my worried thoughts
Shock of the moment, attention caught

All of my life, melting away
All of my selfishness falls to decay
In memory of the ones who give me the chance
To sing and to laugh, even to dance

My worries and thoughts continually fade,
Leaving me in a lighter shade,
The night that surrounded me drifted away,
Leaving me in a brand new day.

I'm still trying to find my style.. Any thoughts on my work will help.
