My mind recalls those days gone by
When climbing a wall was like eating a pie
Limbs were strong and muscles tight
Fists at the ready, waiting for a fight
Dreams were wishes, and paths made of gold
Young and healthy, a lad so bold
Rugby, football, cricket I played
A giant on the field, never afraid
Growing up was awesome, my world ideal
Family life was warm, and comfort was real
I blushed when girls admired my tenacity
The world was my oyster, no such word as pity.
Crash! bang! I lay all torn
I wanted to die, wished I hadn't been born
Life saving apparatus, machines vibrating
Faces with masks, all irritating
I can feel my legs, I can twitch my feet
But my hands tell me otherwise, I am incomplete
Yes! I am crippled, my legs are gone
The game of chance, is still to be won.
Broken shattered dreams of life
Memories remain of those years of strife
As I cast my mind back to yesteryear
I can still remember that moment of fear
Today, I am glad that I can look back and not cry
For life is for living, when your'e not ready to die
Healing the pain, with the sharing of love
Came from the words of the great God above.
