There's air here. I'm breathing.
Breathing in the scent of the trees,
as the birds chirp their songs at 5 A.M.,
not caring that the rest of the world sleeps,
or that I am standing in their midst,
silently, trying to float away.
Yes, I'm awake, breathing,
as the geese fly overhead,
bellowing loud tones, in the light blue sky,
gliding upon a faint, cool breeze
that soothes the senses.
Morning dew, softly touches me
as my bare feet linger in freshly cut grass,
easing down to feel the earth's essence,
as it claims the heaviness that I've wore,
like a suit of armor.
Eyes closed, I lean my head back,
feeling the wind touch me, as I breathe,
wondering why nature has eluded me,
or if perhaps I just closed it off,
not wanting to feel anything for awhile.
But now...
now I'm breathing,
breathing crisp air, hearing voices of nature,
feeling the energies rise through my feet,
as I watch a deer stare and a bunny hop,
through a neighborhood of holly and pine.
And I ask myself,
surrounded by the serenity of this place,
when it was that I had forgotten to breathe,
or hear the birds sing, or even feel the grass,
when did I forget, that I am a part of it all?
I don't remember, I only know that I barely lived.
And now...now I breathe.

I am in awe of the soothing tone of this write. You have done an amazing job of gently pulling the reader into your world here. It is also a needed reminder for most of us, to pause and take stock of the riches we hold every day if we open our eyes to see it. Or as you so eloquently say here...to remember to breathe.
