Just an Organ Grinder's Monkey

Missing image

I'm just a sad little monkey, on a leash, all day.
Wish I wasn't chained up this way.
Just an organ grinders toy, with no place to run,
jammed back in a cage when each day is done.

He feeds me dog biscuits and the wires are so cold,
He thinks I'm happy?  Won't I ever be paroled?
I was living in the jungle, with all of my friends,
now, I'm in this prison and the hurt never ends.

Each night, when I dream, it's in black and white.
The color is gone, and my life is a fright.
Doesn't anyone see how I'm dying in pieces,
each day is another, my anguish increases.

One day, I'm still hoping, somebody will care,
they'll come rescue me and take me somewhere,
where monkeys are playing, who'll welcome me home,
and then I'll be happy, and free to roam.

Thanks Angel. I hate any kind of animal abuse and it's always heavy on my mind.
  • Oh wow! Your words are so beautiful! you have a brilliant talent, this poem has really effected my emotions. I had seen a report on the news about the monkeys being abused for entertainment but you have really brought it into the light for me. seeing it from there point of view is so much more moving. this is stunning work

This is great and brings to our attention the plight of such animals. They should be free as we are, Ros

  • Ed, Cages and leashes we find too often in our world and animals in places where they were never intended to be. This is sadly all too true for many animals brought out of their natural habitat who become victims of human curiosity or greed.

....Oh, many years ago, I had a cocker spaniel, too. He was honey colored and a very sweet pet.
