Soul Pain

How does one measure the pain of the soul?

Is it on a scale of 1-10?

Which is the worst, the physical pain or the constant ache deep inside the heart as you are parted daily, hourly, or minute by minute of the love so intertwined within your body and soul?

There are no pain pills for the soul.

There are no words or platitudes that can ease the agony.

There are no scales to measure the depths of the pain within.

Pain is unseen and cannot be felt by anyone but you.

You cannot seek relief from outside sources.

It is unfortunate at best and unbelievable at worst, when measured by those who look on and judge your pain for themselves.

Their measured judgement of you will squeeze out the last of your self worth.

For to acknowledge your pain could mean the same for them.

Move on, get over it, are the pills that they prescribe.

Just mark the face that best measures the pain you feel!

I know that many say, "move on" "get over it" or things like it. Pain in the soul is hard to get rid of and it is not easy to move on. Thank you for entering and sharing these deep thoughts with us.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us and for writing a piece that many of us have all to often felt and dealt with. Too many times in life others try to measure your internal pain and pass judgment on how long or little it may take us to deal with it. It is very wrong of others to do so, yet they do. Many hugs to you in your time of pain and towards your healing. Hugs~Nikki

This is a sad write that expresses some very painful emotions. It is true that people sometimes stand in judgement of us and tell us to just get over it and move on. But the truth is that the only way out of pain is through it. So, in essence, one basically needs to move through the stages of grief and talk and talk to a trusted person. Do we ever forget, no, but it does get a little easier to bear. You have done a great job putting your feelings onto paper which can be healing of itself. Blessings, Patty

  • You really describe the pain of the soul very well.

    I so relate to this:
"There are no scales to measure the depths of the pain within.
Pain is unseen and cannot be felt by anyone but you."

I think that all pain that others cannot see an obvious reason for tends to be judged. They just cannot relate. If you are ON crutches...they may judge it less harshly. But if you have no obvious cause for the pain...watch out.

Good write. You express it very well!

I have heard move on and forget it or my boys so many times. How do you forget years of abuse both sexual and physical or forget the children that you love so much. Your write touched me very deeply sorry you too have to suffer. Good luck in the contest my friend.

  • Wow! I really felt the anguish and the desperation. I have felt the "disbelief" and "judgement" of others. It is usually because they haven't suffered in that way. Or, if they have, in some distant past, they have consciously forgotten in and have chosen not to remember. We make them realize their own vulnerability. That they too can feel pain and despair.
No one is immune. It is usually a matter of time.
You portrayed this delicate subject very well in your write.
