old couple.

cracked lips whisper gentle harmonies
that intertwine around the melodies of love

hoarse throats croak out sweet nothings
that are really sweet somethings

rough, wrinkled skin rubs against
soft, wrinkled bedsheets

"i always said we'd grow old together"
"you never said anything about dying"

old, puffy eyes meet
and share the same emotion

"well, i think we can live forever"
"i don't want to unless i'm in your arms"

arthritis-ridden fingers meet
and wind tight around each other

we sigh our last breath
singing loves songs to each other

and we become shadows
as our bodies become nothing

or maybe somethings.

Im not one for romantic poems or farie tale like dreams, but this is nice.
It's not overly sappy or plain old "I love you because you're perfect".
It's just honest everyday happiness (whether it exists or not).
