Virginia

Mountains and meadows,
filled with sweet southern air.
Back roads and highways,
Six hours speeding gets me there.

Mile markers in moonlight,
and Waylon's on the radio.
Gas station coffee,
still got a long way to go.

I'm hoping by sunrise,
I'll be knocking at your door.

Oh, Virginia
I'm coming home.
Yeah, Virginia
home to your arms.
I'm headed for the state line,
on them sweet Virginia roads.

Dark hair and honest eyes,
her smile shines like the sun.
I've been waiting for the right time,
to tell you you're the one.

Virginia, by sunrise,
I'll be knocking at your door.

Oh, Virginia
I'm coming home.
Yeah, Virginia
Home to your arms.
I'm headed for the state line,
on them sweet Virginia roads.

  • I listened to this as well, and I actually think this was the stronger of the two songs, but as a poem the other is by far the stronger, these are lyrics firstly and poem second, but still a pleasure to read...Sue
