Barefoot in the fields I wait for you.
Remembering all the times I had with you.
Spring turned to Summer and the Summer turned to Fall.
Wish I'd known that by December you'd be gone.
That was the coldest winter that I'd ever had,
Wishing you were there to hold my hand.
Oh, the only thing colder than the weather outside
was the bed that I laid in the day you died.
We were married in the field where I first kissed you.
Tears flooded my eyes when you said I do.
We laid you in the ground just a little after noon.
Till death do us part never came so soon.
That was the coldest winter that I'd ever had,
wishing you were there to hold my hand.
Oh, the only thing colder than the weather outside
was the bed that I laid in the day you died.

the emotion in this is overwhelming, and the imagery is absolutely gorgeous. this is one of the best pieces i think i've ever read, because it elicited such emotion in me. this is really breathtaking.

I have just been to your page and listened to this and I'm very glad you posted the lyrics as a poem, both are excellent, a heart wrenching story well told.
I'll read more of your work and welcome to Allpoetry, I hope you'll like it here...Sue

Hi Matthew-Simpson
There is not much to say about this poem because there is nothing i write to tell how much this has touched my heart.
Your emotions and sorrow you have expressed vividly.
Keep writing

This is heart-breaking yet beautiful. You have painted a very vivid picture in my mind. I can feel the words... and emotion behind them. An excellent job writing this out. Thank you for sharing your words and talent here with us all. I hope you continue to do so.
