Reincarnation Of The Apple

Gravity was discovered after an apple fell on Newton's head.
But, could it hold a secret of the dead?
Once eaten to the core, all that is left are the seeds.
Will they spread karma from good deeds?
Plant the seeds in the ground and a new tree with apples grows.
Even in nature, a reincarnation of an apple shows.

Author notes

Do apples have consciousness? Food for thought.

thanks, William. the Adam and Eve connection to the poem is interesting. I hadn't really thought of the poem that way when I was reading about the story of Newton. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

      Hey, thanks.
Yeah, I tend to think a lot. Too much sometimes, I think.

It is interesting to philosophize where would a scarecrow go? Just my guess, but I think it would hide in bails of hay. To be camouflaged or something.

      Thanks for commenting.

Hey, thanks so much. I have gotten some interesting reviews on this so far. I honestly don't think it's my best work, but I'm glad the poem makes you think. That's why I write them for the most part. Always appreciate the comments.

Oh, how I remember the day when science and history gave me Newton and the apple! Having had a plum tree in our backyard while I was in elementary school, I have to confess that I did not walk beneath it for some time. Apples do not have the best place in history (just think William Tell, Eve, Snow White, AND Alan Turning). I have always loved the thought of taking nothing and forming something, and though a seed is a something, so many view it as a nothing, if that makes any sense at all. Newton did just that when he had his revolutionary thought. Seriously, who wakes up, gets bonked on the head with an apple, and then turns it around and discovers gravity? A pure genius, I would say, like the one who wrote this very enriching poem.

Which came first, the apple or the seed?

    Write on,
    Brit

Thanks. Yeah, you do bring up a good point. Not many people would think up the theory of gravity if an apple fell on their head. Most likely that's what made Newton such a great scientist in his time. Thanks for stopping by my work and commenting. I appreciate it.

Thanks. Yeah, it is kind of funny how Newton thought of gravity, eh?

Glad it made you think. Basically the reason I have always written and continue to write. I like to provoke thought and think a lot about philosophical things myself most days.

Thanks, Daithian. I'm always glad when I can make people think with my poetry. One of the main reasons I write. Unfortunately I've been going through a bit of a writer's block lately. I've been on here looking around the contests tonight. Haven't found any inspiration yet, though.

Sorry to hear about the flooding. That sounds awful.
I hope things get better for you and your family.

      Peace.

This was fun. Growing up in a Hindu home, I'm very familiar with reincarnation. It's a cute idea. However, I think that the seed, is just for the tree. An apple, is like a pouch for the seed, that's used to make other trees. I don't know when souls enter though. Thought-provoking.

Thanks, Arati. You bring up a good point about the seed. I'm not sure when soul or energy or whatever people want to call it, enters either. What makes people conscious in the first place, other than the brain, of course.
Your comment provokes some thought in me. Thanks for commenting on my work.

Well... honestly... I think that the concept and message were very original. I can honestly say for certain that I have never read something like this before. I think it was a tad bit short and the flow was a little choppy... BUT the rhyming was good and the message was interesting. I like the idea.

whatever you write i find it fascinating. Your imagination and your love for science and the universe captivates and entertains. I hope an apple does not have a conscious, though. I'd never eat another one. Love, Lane

lol. I never thought of it quite that way. It could be an idea for a whole other poem there. Do apples feel pain?

I don't think an apple would necessarily have consciousness, though. I was thinking in the poem more along the lines of just energy being recycled, like the atoms that make up the apple. But, one never knows.

      Thanks for the comment, Lane.

very true. Of course they have consciousness. At least they have the possibility I think. They reproduce, provide food, shade, but what fool would set under one to get hit on the head to begin with? But at least Newton used the mishap to discover gravity. Thanks for sharing and keep writing.

You agree with my poem? lol. I thought it sounded like some wacky philosophy. Glad you liked it, though.
Yeah if it hadn't been for Newton, we might still be wondering why we are still stuck to the Earth, eh?

      Thanks for the comment, Charley.

OOOOOOH! Wow! You really made me wonder about life after death after reading this! Since apples, one organism, has life after death...could it really and truly be possible to have people come back from the dead? Interesting observation. Loved the way you laid it out for those of us who aren't so profound. Well done indeed!

Yeah, seeds from apples, atoms from supernovas, all the energy in the universe being recycled to create something new again. It's something I think about and philosophize about often. That's just the way I am.
