Finding Peace

She walks,
hands at her sides, with lips tight together
her hair plastered to her face,
dripping to her shoulders from the rain
the cold heavy rain
It touches everything,
leaving nothing with a sense of dryness
Although her world is filled with color,
today it portrays only a saturated gray,
Picture perfect

And as she walks,
the road she travels on comes to a crossing
so she stops
Ultimately too late to turn back
Her heart beats stronger, though each pulse hurts
with wonderful memories that ended abruptly,
leaving her empty; damaged at best

Blanketed in curiosity, she looks to see
what goes on beyond these two dishevelled roads
Optimism growing thin, she realizes:
A choice must be made.
Closing her eyes, she peaks into her troubled soul
it screams for happiness
So, although she looks, once more, longingly to the left,
her feet shuffle to the right

The time has come to erase the hurt
And leave behind the past
To finally let go,
to find peace, alongside the rain

Thank you for entering the contest. I loved how you describe making a decision as choosing a direction on a road. Sometimes it is very hard to find the path thagt is the best for us... and even harder to not folow the path that we know the most. Great write and good luck
