Confusion Not Allayed

I'm "a stranger in a strange land" *
One that, sometimes, I hardly recognize.

Hate is dotted througout our country**
I wonder why? I don't think
I'll ever really understand.

Although I'm told that some think
Others must be inferior
Or their confidence wouldn't be as bold

Those must be the 'fearful ones'
Who are afraid of anyone with
Values different from their own

Degrading others may create false
Feelings of superiority for them
But this just covers up their insecurities

That's the only reason I can think of
For their internal 'angst ***'

Cool - liked this one, i thought the beginning was stronger then the end, but that is only a personal opinion.

    • Thank you for your comment and compliment. Yes, I can see what you mean. I went from a strong assertive statement at the beginning to a more reflective tone at the end.
  • this is a good pome

    Excellent Write

Thank you for saharing this wonderful poem. The message you convey is felt by so many. Some people are just miserable with their own lives and who they are and take it out on others instead of finding out why they are not happy. They should look within before they lash out at others. Thank you for this great poem. A pleasure to read this morning. Take care,
    Sandy

  • Haha. I got so stirred up that I forgot your smiling reindeer.

  • Nice job. I think that racism is one of the worst human traits. I have people who hate me due to my politics. Personally, while I have carried personal grudges in the past, I think hatred is a waste of time and energy.

I disagree with individuals and with certain ideas. I may even disagree with certain cultural issues. But, generally I do not hate.
    • Aye, 'tis true and sexism, ageism, homophobia, and other prejudices are equally as bad. At least, in my opinion.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment and compliments, I do appreciate them. And the next time it snows in Seattle, I'll be sure to use your raindeer (lol) to pull my sleigh!
