Close night upon small shoulders,
eyes grow heavy like summer air
before clouds bind into storm
and fires flash across dark skies
when rumblings roll near from afar
like freight trains traveling into view
and mountains repeat the song
of summer night, chirped interludes
and croaking calls, nature intrudes softly
for thunder’s flash,
creature songs in ancient rhymes
as mere flickers in winds of desire;
this dark hour belongs to my hunger
the fountain in the glade unto my thirst
and the soft wet feel of rain on my face.
In light that captures shapes of shadows
gives form to windy kisses upon leaves
brings memories of seas and sunshine roses,
lips seek comfort of an answer, when the
question is in the night, in palms and darkness
upon fingertip finds, movement and murmurs
floating light of bare night, stars and waters
brushed by gentle moving air, sights
in calm touches of heaven’s ebony skin,
silence falls and breath rises in hushed tones
softly lost melodies, tiding from deep hiding
inner embers drawn to glow
like fireflies dance to moon song.
Please tell me what you think

A calm as night is ligthed with the visions of fireflies, as their tiny lights dart to and fro! In hushed tones! Wonderful imagery this poem has. ~Sie

I was thinking of an Afrikaans poem while reading yours, PK...about how the night is never just black or quiet...this poem shows the beauty and the serenity of night in all its colours. Lovely poetry!
