A Little Understanding, Please…

Missing image
As the sun softly sets and the evening appears
the hunger returns.  Tonight somebody’s tears
will flow as they take their last shuddering breath.
They will look in my eyes and see only death.

It’s not fear I seek. It’s my need to survive
for it’s only by blood that I stay alive.
Legend say I’m a monster but that’s just not true.
Why within my heart, I’m no different from you.

I’m really not vicious, I’m actually nice.
But if I ask you to dinner you might think twice.
Depending on where we pick as a venue
it just might be you that ends up on the menu.

I’ve heard it said, as my fangs sink within,
I’m the kind of guy that gets under your skin.
When it comes to conversation, I have few peers.
That’s what comes from living for hundreds of years.

The hunger’s my mistress, one that’s demanding
and more than your blood, I just want understanding.

Okay... I lie
