One more day of broken lifetimes spent.
Dirty hands holding tight to deadly weapons.
Tearstained pages lay in their pockets,
letters from the homeland.
They're fighting for their country,
but inside the war is all their own.
The enemy approaches.
Three more prayers are said.
A prayer for courage not to fail.
Then a prayer for acceptance,
if they find themselves reaching the promise land.
And finally a prayer for their country,
cause that's what they're fighting for.
Then they say their last goodbyes.
They met fine people here,
whom they only wish,
they could have met somewhere else.
Hands over hearts,
they charge into this ruthless battle.
Show no fear though hearts are pounding.
Guns are fired and bombs explode.
Fire making night like day.
Eyes are crying from the heat.
Deafened ears ringing from the blasts.
Bodies fall yet not all die quick.
Some just lay there on the ground,
in their hands clutch pictures of their loved ones.
But for most the battle's over,
as they peer down through heavens gates.
Watching the soldiers still alive,
and knowing they'll make it through.
Then they see their loved ones,
as they attend their funerals.
And they cry their tears of sorrow,
wishing for one more hug and one more kiss.
Their tears fall down and splash the flag.
Nation's colors drowned in soldiers tears.
For just one more day of broken lifetimes spent.
Author notes
For the all the soldiers lost in battle. May you R.I.P.
