Hush And Be Silent

Hush my children!
Our mother whispers
Hush and be silent
Let no one hear you
She cradles us in love
And whispers silent prayers
Men stomp above our hiding place
We can hear them destroying our home
Hush my children!
Our mother whispers
Hush and be silent
For we must hide from the Germans
She murmurs to herself
Rocking quietly in our hiding place
She clutches her Star of David
And prays for our safety
Tears streak down our faces
As we hear the men take our belongings
We hear them talking about our people
And about the man who started this all
They called him Hitler
I shuddered at his name
He had caused so much pain
Hush my children!
Our mother whispers
Hush and be silent
Let no one hear your cries
The men leave laughing
We wait a while longer
And get out of our hiding place
My brother and I cry as we look at the damage they had done
My mother knells in front of us
And she whispers
Hush my children
Everything will be over soon
Do not ever let them see you cry
Show them that we are not afraid to be who we are
Hush and be silent

Author notes

I am not a Jew, but I have always found World War 2 extremely interesting. So I wrote this poem through the eyes of a child in that time period, hiding with his family from the germans.

I suggest that before you submit anything that you always, always spell check it. It really takes away from the meaning of the poem if words are mispelled.

"whisperes" should be 'whispers'. You spelt this wrong several times. Also, "murmures" does not need and 'e'. Just 'murmurs'.
    • Thanks for the spell check tip. I fixed it, so it's good now. What did you think of the poem?
  • This touched my heart you wrote about as if it was really happening to you and made me believe it! Brillant write and quite inspiring
