All you see is what you want,
and this is how I wish it to be.
I don't want anyone to see what made me
that would only change their opinion of me.
Today you see a stoic face,
one that rarely cracks a full smile,
only a mere smirk or a little laugh.
This is the result of my past choices in life.
What you have not seen is the mistakes I’ve made.
The bad influences only made things worse with time.
You have not seen the end result of my lifestyle choices,
such I have seen in my short life on earth so far.
The quietness is a result of a screaming child,
one that was crying out for help from a young age.
The cold hearted appearance was learned,
it was taught through hatred of others.
I was too blinded to see the cruelty of Man.
Unfortunately, at a tender age my innocence,
was savagely taken away from me.
This is now years later and I still regret.
The advice I give out to people,
isn't through old age wisdom,
but through a fool's experiences.
Its how I have earned my battle scars.
Today you see a stoic face,
one that rarely cracks a full smile,
only a mere smirk or a little laugh.
This is the result of my past choices in life.
and this is how I wish it to be.
I don't want anyone to see what made me

Powerful words! Very sad ones, too.
Sadly, the following words can be related to by too many people...me included.
"The quietness is a result of a screaming child,
one that was crying out for help from a young age."
I also relate to this:
"All you see is what you want,
and this is how I wish it to be.
I don't want anyone to see what made me
that would only change their opinion of me."
It is always sad when we cannot show our true selves and share our true histories without being judged or shunned.
Good write!

I too have learned from past choices and contiue to learn each new day. What a wonderful write I could so relate. We don't know what the future may hold but with hope and faith we can go on. Thanks for sharing.

I too am more stoic as a consequence of past experiences. It is sad when we are not protected at a young age from making foolish mistakes and choices. Yet, we go on and live with it - trying to make the best of things. We can only learn from the past and cannot change what has already transpired.
Loved the way you repeated the second stanza at the end. A beautiful,eloquent stanza;
"Today you see a stoic face,
one that rarely cracks a full smile,
only a mere smirk or a little laugh.
This is the result of my past choices in life" -
well my friend
get behind he rest of us

but I will tell you you need to live for the moment
that is the only way out,
let go of all the bagage, its a new day.
