A Sonnet on Global Warming.

I don’t know ‘bout this media hype concerning ‘Global Warming’
‘coz lately it’s been freezing cold with hail and snow and frosts
and icy blizzards, gale-force winds with intermittent storming;
cars overturned, boats smashed on rocks, God knows what other costs !

If you do not believe me, you have just your nose to show
outside, to feel the cold out there and get it bitten off.
Then you can see my footprints frozen in the slush and snow
while every neighbour all around here’s got a cold or cough.

But I’ve stopped burning garden rubbish in my ‘cinerator
to save the ozone layer from the smoke that gets quite dense.
I wait until it’s dark at five o’clock or even later,
then tip my sacks of leaves and stuff across the neighbour’s fence !

Of course I hope tonight we’ll have a heavy fall of snow
‘coz then my tell-tale footprints to the neighbour’s fence won’t show !

Heathcote Giffen, July 2nd. 2008.

Dearest Heath, it certainly has been a very cold winter but at least we can cuddle up in bed and keep warm.

    Your poor neighbours

OH Heath, you are such a card, you make me laugh at each poem you write, especially ones about you and Hine. At least it's not too bad this tome except for the making love outside and the problem she has! I bet you copped it for saying that! Haha
A great poem though dear cuz.
    Love Jen

Funny poem about a serious subject! We've got to keep our sense of humor, though. We'll need it in the days to come if nothing is done to make things better.

Best of Luck in the contest!

LOL, I would do the same...but not leaves...the household trash! That'll teach my neighbor for always having such a spiffy looking yard!

This one fun stuff and an early leader in the contest.

    Goodness gracious me

Ohh my Heath, your poor neighbours must be driven crazy with what you throw over the fence. I bet they retaliate in some way. But you're right about the cold, even here in Australia we've had unusual weather. It gets very cold here too in winter, but surprisingly it's going back to the way it was when we first moved in our house, now that was cold, for many years after about living thirty years here I could walk around in summer clothes and just a cardigan on, but now I have to wear a warm jacket.
A great poem my dear Nephew.
    Love AJ

    Sounds like my neighbour...

Global Warming? More like "Global-Screwball-Weather". It's officially summer, we've had crazy storms 5 of the past 6 days, flooding, power-outages, extrememe winds, and temperatures in the mid 70's...

    Loved the ending.

Hmmm... that's one way to solve a problem... let the neighbor deal with it. Your poem is very funny, Heath but as I was reading and laughing, a serious note crept in and it occurred to me that this kind of thing is exactly what's going on, too... leaving the problems for someone else to deal with. You've pointed out one of the main dillemas of the upcoming demise of our fragile earth.

A good entry and I wish you best of luck in the contest
