Trapped within a prison built of falsity
I struggle to remember who is really me.
Am I the perfect daughter that my parents think I am
or am I someone else and the rest is just a scam.
Am I the tender lover? Am I the faithful wife?
Or are those just disguises that I use to hide my life?
They come on automatically, I don’t even realize
as I carousel my faces, not noticing the lies.
Some day I’ll find the switches
and turn them off, one by one
and when there are no more…
I’ll see who I am when I am done.
