Brown Study from the Lowlands

My fart's from the Lowlands, my fart is not here,
My fart's from the Lowlands disgracing I fear -
embracing the "oh dear, hear three in a row !"
my fart's in the doldrums, no place else to blow.

.

Farewell to the colon[y]'s whale of a gale,
the column of calor, one gale won from whale;
wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
my fart blows from private parts,  I'm treasure trove cove.

.

Farewell from gust mounting high in the air;
Hello to disgust leading on to despair,
Hello ivy league bladderwort fount in puds;
Hello to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.

.

My fart's from the Lowlands, my fart is not here,
My fart's from the Lowlands disgracing I fear -
embracing the "oh dear, three more in a row !"
my fart blows from doldrums, so little to show...

Author notes

Brown Study

Absence of mind; apparent thought, but real vacuity. The corresponding French expression explains it—sombre réverie. Sombre and brun both mean sad, melancholy, gloomy, dull.

E. Cobham Brewer 1810–1897. Dictionary of Phrase and Fable. 1898
1
“Invention flags, his brain grows muddy,
And black despair succeeds brown study.”

William Congreve: An Impossible Thing.

______________

My Heart's In The Highlands

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go.

Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow;
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below;
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods;
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go.

Robert Burns - written 1789
tune- "Failte na Miosg."

    *chuckles* Cute, very cute. I like how you kept the exact rhyme scheme (and meter!) of "My Heart's in the Highlands".

    An adorable contribution, thank you for entering it! Best of luck!

    Very Funny

    Where ever you wander where ever you rove
    I won’t stand behind you to light my camp stove
    there could be a disaster on a grand scale
    which doesn’t bear thinking of to end this tale.

    Not a usual topic for you to write about, even as humour but as I have noted before, you can turn your hand to any given subject and write about it with ease and flair. Perhaps my mind is easy to please when it comes to humour but I found this poem very funny. Think I'll go and look for some nose pegs now
