Reason To Celebrate

It is not easy now days
to decipher what is true
evil comes in many ways
corruption is nothing new.

This country has been right
made mistakes, more than a few.
It has seen better days and night
has seen allot worse ones too.

Not every leader we have elected
has been honest, good and true,
there are those we have rejected,
and wars we have been in a few.

Now, we all have our own view
what we like and what we do not
policies, politics and things we do
how money talks and leaders are bought.

America, it seems many have forgot
is not about all mistakes or better days
any one president or policies he's got
or knocking the country, let's count the ways.

We don't celebrate the 4th of July
based on reasons for war in Iraq
whether Bush's WMD were a lie
There is more to America than we lack.

Soldiers have paid the ultimate price
we've survived civil war and depressions
prospered, grown, improved civil rights
landed on the moon, given compassions.

The 4th of July is bigger than you and me
it is more than just present times or any era
nor any moment, it is what it means to be free
it is over 200 years of being America.

It is for the truth of which it stands
that we should be proud of is still the same
what we do with our freedom is in our hands
in principles we were founded, have no shame.

"allot" is two words, a lot.
I like the simplicity of this, but it sounds regurgitated facts to me, the kind that they shove into little kids' heads so that they don't have to think for themselves. I really see no form of personal opinion. I think that you just wanted to remain dutiful to your country without offending any number one party. To me, this was kinda bland and really didn't offer me a unique perspective. Sorry, that is just the way I feel.

      Well maybe it is bland

it is however all my personal opinion. Probably toned down a bit because I try to avoid being the pissed off radical I have been for 40 years since Viet-Nam and I really have no one to impress except maybe the little kids. Amazing as it seems being dutiful too my country is important and it hasn't been easy for me. Unique ? maybe not, not sure anyone would like that side of me and I would rather not remind myself of that side either. Thanks for the critique

      al·lot (ə-lŏt') pronunciation
      tr.v., -lot·ted, -lot·ting, -lots.

      1. To parcel out; distribute or apportion: allotting land to homesteaders; allot blame.
      2. To assign as a portion; allocate: allotted 20 minutes to each speaker.

    Remembering July 4th!

I appreciate your words so much because we have to look at the greater picture, who America is, what she stands for no matter what.America is the most gregarious nation in the world. We as Canadians try to follow peace, and charity too. But W you have with wisdom mentioned the negative and accentuated the positive which is something we as patriots of either country must do to continue being strong nations as we are...and never never forget the price that freedom has cost our countries, and value our servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price. A hearty Bravo for this patriotic write!

For the truth which it stands for, one country under God, and our nation rules! Wow, impressive poem to remind of what our independence really means. Thank you for this, a simple reminder to us all.

I had to read this aloud because the flow and feel to your lines they had to be felt as they were spoken aloud. This HH is your America the home of the free but I cannot help but feel there is a message for world peace....the foundation blocks you speak of really apply to everyone across te globe. You pen from the wisdom within your soul in your trademark style and rhyme. Good luck in this contest.
