gritty sand / soft sea

We only stepped a solitary
foot inside the promised land,
just to see what paradise
really felt like.

But our toes and feet
grew warm, so we collapsed
into the unending sea.
Underwater, it was as if

we were swimming through
the sky, and those creatures
just couldn't breathe in the air
- they needed the pressure.

Their scales pounding,
they eluded us,
mirages amongst the water

So we searched, yearning
to see those glimmers
through the opaque blur.
Confusion; we lost each other.

But we surfaced, gasping for air.
Holding each other between
the tumult of sand and waves.
Afloat, anew. Full of

wisdom and understanding. We
knew that our eyes
would hold us together,
never to be lost or alone again.

this is really cute. afloat, anew. i like those words a lot. this whole piece just reminds that no matter how much we think we're better off alone, when we meet the right person, we're completely happy and intrigued by them; doing things we've never really thought about doing before, exploring their being, like we explore the sea. you are very amazing, dear, and i'm glad you're back into writing.

Goodness gracious, I always love your writing... it's got such a simple feel to it, but it says more than it lets on at first glance. The line "We knew that our eyes would hold us together..." is by far one of my favorite things I've read in a long time. I also like the three-line stanza in the middle, like a bridge to mix things up a little. I'm glad you decided to come back and post something new, I actually got really excited when I saw that you'd posted something... and you definitely didn't disappoint. :-D Keep it up, please.
