Do you know how long the night is?
How long the moon glows
and the stars show you the way.
Do you know how long silence echoes
until darkness absorbs it
and it is lost forever?
Do you know the sound life makes as it leaves?
Does it bang or crash disturbing the peace
or faintly buzz until it will cease?
Do you know how long the night is
after the sun falls down
and drowns in the void?
Do you know how long children sleep
before the nightmare hits
bringing fits of paranoia?
Do you know the sound life makes as it leaves?
Does it bang or crash disturbing the peace
or faintly buzz until it will cease?
Will it interrupt the length of the night
of vanish like it was never in sight?
Do you know how long the night is?
Author notes
"If I were a poet, that's what I'd write about. People who worked in the middle of the night... They know how long the night was. They knew the sound life made as it left. It rattled, like a slamming screen door in the wind. Night workers lived without illusions." -White Oleander

I personally loved this. It, to me, gave off this peaceful, yet creepy, feeling.. Like when everything seems too quiet and you're all freaked out because you're looking into the woods and bushes, waiting for something to jump out at you. ahahhaa that sounded stupid
but I really do like this. The beginning was cool, too.. It really drew me in when you said "How long the moon glows/and the stars show you the way.".. then went on to add "Do you know how long silence echoes/until darkness absorbs it/and it is lost forever?" That's such a cool image.. aaaaahhhhhhhh. c:
