Today I planted a tree to help create oxygen
and turned off the air so I would use less fuel.
But oh how I coughed from all the allergens
when I ate my dinner in the buff to try to stay cool.
At the grocer's I am asked "paper or plastic?'
Neither one, I say, no more landfills for me.
My own bag I have and I am not being sarcastic
I am just trying to save another tree.
Get out of that car and leave it behind
Then look around and see if you can find one little hint
Of ways to do something good for all of mankind
Ways to leave a smaller footprint
I ride my bike to work and walk up the stairs
My Starbucks in a recycled cup I drink
All the while gasping for a breath of pure air
Cause our world is right on the edge of the brink
No one ever said it would be an easy job
to turn this world around and head it up hill.
For there are far too many really big slobs
and millions more who should be using the pill.
Too many people and not enough space
Wasting our resources and not thinking twice.
Can this old earth survive the human race?
Since life has become just a roll of the dice.
We have to recycle, we have to reuse,
Because the sound you hear is the ecology clock
Our world can stand no more physical abuse

Dear Darlene, I think I will go and see about planting some trees, the more we can plant it will help us immensely. Loved your poem.

Hi Darlene,
Another wonderful poem from you on going green.
I leave the car at home and walk as much as I can.
If we pull our socks up now and do something about it, maybe we'll have a chance.

Dear Darlene,
Whatever is ahead for us I guess we'll know December 21st 2012 when they say the Mayan zodiac ends, who knows why it stopped, maybe they just ran out of space and our world will stay the same.
A good idea for us all to band together and go green to make our world a better place to live in.
It certainly is a wonderful poem Darlene.

Would this be a good time to say that I cut my own firewood...but I have plenty of trees left.

And I have planted a lot of trees in my time, I've built natural borders for privacy and just because I was bored. That was then...now I'm lazy.
I should do more to re-cycle, but I don't buy much stuff. I drive less thanks to the high cost of gas. I'd change light bulbs to the more efficient kind but they are so expensive and if one dies prematurely (like all bulbs do) where's the savings there? Yes, I'm whining.
But of course you are tight. I like to cry and complain like in my entry but I know things are not good and could be better...I just think it'll take more of an effort than we'll all be willing to make.

Dear Darlene,
The picture that you paint is rather grim.
Mankind can choose to either sink or swim.
When we've ruined all Nature's face
and we blast off into space,
perhaps we'll pause and spare a thought for HIM?
It's a pity that you didn't add a picture
though in no way do I mean this as a stricture
but it would have been enough
just to see you in the buff
eating dinner with your hubby in the nickture.
Applause for this contest and for your Non-Entry participation. I hope we get plenty of entries.
Love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

Excellent poem, Darlene!
This really tells it like it is! I like how aware you are of the state of affairs, Darlene! Let's all do our part to save the planet!

Think Green!

This is a good take on the needs of our planet, needs that only we can do something about.
A right on poem, Sis, a serious subject but with a touch of humor. And where would we be with out humor in our lives, even in the worst of times.
I wish this could be an entry eligable for judging, you'd surely place with this well written and pertinent poem

Thanks much...I think I got the contest edited okay now...I hope so any way...now back to doll making...
I have stuffed 50 plus heads and sewn them on the bodies...my sholders hurt from stuffing and my fingers have blisters from pulling on the nylon thread used for attaching the heads...now I am getting ready to draw and paint the faces on...I still have 50 heads to sew and stuff then attach and paint...I must be insane but when finished my ASG chapter will have helped me put together almost 300 dolls and bears for the homeless children in our county...yep...I need a life

I think it's wonderful what you're doing for the homeless children in your county. The world needs more people like you who care enough to do something that requires so much effort but is worth it for the smiles it brings to the faces of those poor, unfortunate souls who don't have a roof over their heads unless it's someone else's.
God bless you, Darlene! You have a life..one worth emulating. You're a great role-model for the rest of us!
Best regards!

Thank you Maureen for the nice compliment. Some times I feel so over whelmed with the needs of the people and especially the children...some times I want to just chuck it all in and not 'care' any more but then I look around and see how fortunate I am and then I know I have to give some back...and I am so greatful to be on the giving end and not on the receiving end...
I feel like if we each make a small difference in the lives of a few it will all add up to a huge change in the lives of so many...we really can make a difference...
