Monkeys

And in this city setting we see the monkeys
Grooming each other, in their colony
See how they swing from business to business
Grabbing easy food on the way

And the fascinating thing about these monkeys
Is they perform for you for little reward
As they set up their hierarchy
On multiple levels of structure

Separated by age, colour and size
The head monkey often sits alone
Yet the lesser animals congregate and play
Attempting to reach out; grabbing attention
From the monkey who sets the rules

When the balance is tippled among monkeys
They will fight, sometimes to the death
As those who feel they have no chance
Will take instead of being deserving

Such is the life of these monkeys, in the city
Who can own the most desired possession?
Who can take the most needed position?
Who can collect the most primal mates?

And the monkeys will keep repeating each day
As they are unaware of their surroundings
The monkeys have lived in this city so long
They think the world is like where they are standing

Please tell me what you think
