Tears from a girl, that never could fly.

Why don't you open the clouds, tear them apart.
If all you want is to see, the sun shining at you.
Who laid them like carpets? The fields of grey clouds.
Oh no, they won't keep us warm.

And fountains were made as it was realized,
you'll never grow wings never learn how to fly.
Except for the times you're a teardrop from me,
you will fly for a moment then die.

You're insistent, backwards, an age to an ode,
a cyllable sleeping in a city of words.
You tried to construct new meanings and lines,
but you're water and with you I'm sand.

We're both stuck in mud, can't you see this disease?
Run to the doctor he will clap our hands free.
Just pray that he can, break chains of faith,
Run from me. I'll run from you.

But we'll see in the end, we can't make our own plan,
when I am old I know what I'll see:
I'll see tears from my girl, that never could fly.
Circles, keeps turning around.
Circles, they will turn around.

Author notes

Option number one.
Name: LadCoberst (This is a poem from a previous contest where you where suppose to "copy" the style of a songwriter of your own choice.)

My choice of songwriter fell on Connor Oberst of the band Bright Eyes. He is the one who inspired me to start writing in the first place, so it was a very natural decicion.

I have tried in my best way to use his styles in writing from the album "Fevers and mirrors" from 2000. The imaginery is very repititive throughout the album. Fevers, mirrors, calendars and scales are lured into his genius writing. The lyrics in the album is about different peoples and their struggles with self reflections, time and its measurements and bad choices. All mixed together in beautiful poetry imo.

I must say I felt a little bit like a thief trying to copy his style. I've allways tried not to write too likely what I'm inspired from. But I must say it was really educational studying his lyrics from close range instead of just letting him sing them to me. Thank you for this contest, it was great!

    Lovely

I loved this poem so much

I can sum it up in only one word, but that word isn't to be taken lightly - lovely

I find judging lyrics as poetry very difficult, I will try to listen to the links when I am home from the office, would not go down well here!

Seems like you're not the only one. I paid for six views and got only your comment, hehe.
