he has his blue shirt
he loves his lemon cordial
almost as much as a Melbourne long neck
often a long face
but mostly a beautiful smile
he had his little stool
in his smoky lounge
he drove his signature blue toyota
with its signature sounding horn
he told jokes
and enjoyed a smoke
he lived off his party pies, fruit salad and ice cream
a great diet for anyone
he loved his dogs, horses and birds
but not cats as he once showed me
always asking how im going?
why im not flying or how the bands going
so proud of his boys he so often talked about
lived for his great wife, always putting her first either saying "have one" or "take one mum" or "where you going" even though she was going from the lounge to the kitchen every time.
but the one thing ill miss the most is jumping into bed early in the morning, giving him a hug and just chatting
we're gunna miss you mate...
Author notes
hey.. i dont know if this is very fitting but thought maybe i could show you what i did... i wrote this for my pops funeral last year after we lost him to gang-green, its not a great poem by any means in terms of skill or even flow, but its my favourite as it really captures who he was... no words will ever help get over a death but they can help with the healing process and i know what you are going through i had 8 deaths in 6months last year and its a hard process... good luck for the future i know its not easy but there are many good things to come from it.
thanks for letting me share..

This is a great poem; it shows the love you have for your father, never put down anything that expresses from your heart the way you feel for some one. Thanks for entering my contest sorry it took so long to comment. I have been dealing with a lot. Your poem brings a little peace to me. Thanks, Melody
