Free To Love

I am geisha,
a magnificant piece of art.
My body is not my own
but belongs to another.

I wear beautiful clothes
and a beautiful face
but pain resides in my soul.
A slave to others' desires.

An orphan, deserted by parents,
has no family name
and without honor, I don't exist.
I am not free to love.

I have not read the novel, but I am sure this is a perfect & succinct synopsis. I don't know whether you intended this but it has an almost Zen-like simplicity, very much in tune with much Asiatic philosophy. I think the Japanese term for simplicity yet aesthetic in design is 'shubuyi'. This poem displays that beautifully.

If it has a zen like quality, that was intentional. I just tred to protray the feelings of a Geisha, someone who has no choce in her path. Actually this was based on the movie since i have not read the book yet.

I like this - short, but full of great emotion and imagery! I haven't read that book, but I do like this.
    Well done!
