The ibis are back;
they visited often this past winter
Then, for a while, I didn't see 'em;
now they've come 'round again.
I like how the ibis fly
high in the Florida sky
With neck and legs
outstretched; in lines
Better yet I love to watch
them graze the ground
Stick legs vaguely reminiscent
of flamingos; smaller though
And white; they forage with long,
downcurved beaks and reddish feet
Behaving like tropical pigeons,
sort of
"Croo, croo, croo.."
I don't know all their secrets;
what deep instincts beckon these birds
To there or here, but I'm pleased
whenever the ibis are near
I like to view them as
a portent of good fortune.

Ah, if the ibis could enjoy your words,
know that you view them with such interest!
Another poem from Olivia,
another bird watching lesson.

Beautiful write. Nice imagery in this. Liked the part about the birds. I always take it as a good sign that the weather is getting warmer when the birds fly back up north. Thanks for sharing and best of luck in the contest.
