A Simple Philosophy

A Simple Philosophy   Sept.07

Hello Mate
It’s me again
With my bits of paper
And scratchy ol’ pen,
You don’t mind, do you?
Me talkin’ this way,
No one else seems to know
What I’m trying to say

Sometimes I think
This whole thing’s
Gone too far
Trying to figure out exactly
Who you are
I reckon I’ve known you
For long enough
To move away
From all that stuff,
Religion! It’s got me
Climbing the wall
I just wanna’ be your friend
That’s all
Don’t wanna’ be angry
Or confused no more
Don’t wanna’ keep knockin
’ On your door,
Askin’ for you
To come into my heart
When I know you’ve been there
Right from the start

So I ain’t bringing no questions
With me this time
Just wanted to tell you
What’s on my mind
All this dogma and stuff
Just don’t cut it with me
It’s confusing enough
Even with a degree..
So if there’s anything else
I still need to know
If I ain’t found it yet
I’ll just let it go
You know,
It’s a funny old world,
That’s what I’ve found
One big question mark
Goin’ round and around
Everyone’s doin’
A balancing act
Trying to separate
Fiction from fact
We’ve got maps of the cosmos
For you know all too well
That we’re all off to heaven
When this world goes to hell
And it’s anyone’s guess
What we’ll come up with next
But we’ve got some good news
If you’re feelin’ depressed
  Yes!
We’ve invented religion!
And we’ll teach you
All about it
It’ll cost you a bit
But you know,
You can’t live without it!
Don’t forget your chequebook
Cos’ it’ll help you believe
It’s always better to give
Than it is to receive…
Yes,
It’s a funny old world
Perhaps it should’ve
Been flat
We’d have all fallen
Off by now,
And that would’ve
Been that!
But,
I’ve said quite enough
And it ain’t mine to say
It’s all negative stuff
And it gets in the way
So I’m turnin’ around
Goin’ back to the start
To find out
What’s really
Goin’ on in my heart
  I’ve been doin’ some thinkin’
About you and me
And I figured, there ain’t
No big mystery
I keep getting’ this feelin’
When I’m talkin’ to you
That it’s kinda’ like me
That I’m talkin’ to
And when you’re talkin to me
It’s like hearin’ the sound
Of my soul
And this whole,
Universe
Turnin’ round
Inside or out
There’s no shadow of doubt
We’re inextricably bound..

And if just for this moment,
I’m permitted to see
What you meant, when you said
The Truth sets us free,
Here in a nutshell
Is what does it for me,
It’s just a simple
Philosophy
For,
The most wonderful thing
That can ever be
True,
Is you living in me,
And me living in you
  But I’ve still got
A whole lot
Of work to do
For,
There’s an upstairs room
Where I live in my mind
It’s a prison that guards
All the things
I can’t find
I was up there today
Just makin’ sure
Then I walked away
And locked the door
I’ll go up there no doubt
Every now and then
With my bits of paper
And scratchy ol’ pen
And it may take some time
But I’m ready at last,
To build something of value
From the ghosts
Of the past
A shelter, where I don’t
Have to hide anymore,
My memories and dreams,
Behind a locked door
A safe harbour perhaps
For fellow travellers
To rest
From the ocean of Love
And it’s long, lonely
Quest

Thank you for taking the time to read this; as a thinker and dreamer I am always going round in circles, it's nice to know I can always come home to where I guess I always belonged in the first place...does that make sense? I hope so

A delight to read. Your rhythm and rhyme talent shines through with a great inspired idea.

The ego says 'seek outside, but do not find'.

I have tried so hard to break away from rhyming poems...alas, they keep on coming back, I can't seem to help myself...
Thank you for taking time to read and comment, I appreciate it

I made a short list and then selected this unaware until afterwards that you had already commented on it...
I have always been fascinated with Quantum physics and have read and studied some...
perhaps this poem does not represent a scentific view but for me all things seem to boil eventually down to same simple truth, that's all I need
      Thank you for the comment

Well John when I saw how long it was I did hesitate but I'm so glad I kept going,
    My feelings exactly.
look within, scrap all the crap that you ever were told, so many perception,
human perception should be called human deception, so if you want to find the Big answer step aside from yourself until you see yourself closer than you ever have before than peel away at your ego and there is where the blind can see
    I so really love this
    exquisite and so enjoyable
    Thank you for sharing
    God bless you my friend...

Yes, it takes time doesn't it when you've been kinda 'breast fed' on all the hype and stuff...but the more you question the more answers you get, I'm still working on the ego thing...but I know now what it really looks like, and I realise that others can see it too, and that's not what I want them to see

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts
      John

  • John, you just quite possibly changed my world, seriously i needed this so so badly

you got it down pat here. God lives inside us and if religion would stay out of it we wouldn't be confused. Good work here.

I believe the truth is so simple that we simply won't believe it...why do we have to complicate everything...oh yeah, the almighty $...sucks don't it...?

    You leave me breathless!

This is for SURE,without a shadow of a doubt,THE ABSOLUTE  BEST POEM I HAVE  EVER  READ!You've got me speechless in the search for words to describe just how astounding this piece is!I LOVE THE ENTIRE THING!Yes it is a long poem, but that isn't in any way a bad thing....I prefer length, depth, and poetry that has a lot to say and doesn't cut it short! You my friend  are one HELL of a writer!I can't wait to read your other works! Thanks for pouring your heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears into this manificent poem!I'm am forever a fan and forever in your shadow as a poet.I know I am an amazing writer but I am not your equal! You are on a higher plane!I hope one day to be as good as you and join you on that plane!

      That's one helluva compliment....!

I'm sure that I don't deserve it lol...but I surely do accept it in the same generous and gracious spirit from whence it comes...
as poets, dreamers, lyricists, artists in general, we all have a role to play in this roller coaster thing called life
we are all of us, reaching out for something we seek but have not yet found...
it will surely be found if we continue to search...
      then again,
it may never be found, no matter how long we search...
      but,
      we are searchers nonetheless
      do we have a choice...?

If you are in my shadow,
then I too am in yours

      Thanks for coming around
if you want to be on my plane,
      I'll pay for the ticket...!

      Appreciate your comment...

I think we make life a lot more complicated than it really is, I reckon God has a good laugh at us now and then...that is of course when he's not crying over the stupid things we do...
      thanks for coming round

    A great poetic reflection

of just who you might be and a mirror for this reader! I enjoyed the style in which your poem was written and the honesty and sincerity that kept me reading. I also read your home page and liked the philosophy you shared there. I hope you can find your way back to your southern heritage where it seems your heart is. joy

      That's a real nice compliment...!

I appreciate it very much...yes, I myself have been drawn to some interesting and talented folk through the process that you describe, I believe ther's a pretty good reason for these "connections"; communication helps us to understand others and at the same time, ourselves too, glad to make your aquaintance... thanks for your support and encouragement

    Wonderful read

I absolutely loved it. You are a very humble gifted man. Keep on searching inside that is where truth is found in the still small voice. Carry on with your beautiful inspiration and it will grow as will your spiritual destiny so that you can use it all the more to help humanity. I believe as we learn to work with our inspiration in humility and love the angels draw close and guide us to greater understanding not only of ourselves but of the world around us.

Y'know -- there's mirrors surrounding every one of us -- and when we 'choose' to turn the lights on and take a real good look, we often 'choose' to change personally. It's all about perspectives and self-reflecting.

This is an epic of a piece. One thing's for certain this is the style of writing that you should 'choose' to do more often. A very wise friend of mine helped me to understand that in my writing when I wrote philosophically and/or spiritually, that I was channeling -- food for thought there for ya.

Keep up the awesome work John and stop frettin' over how many reads your poems -- you are a great poet.

    actually ..you truly revealed

tenderly and cleverly many facets of your soul.
WE salute you dear poet...and understand the guard
that stands watch...peeking thru to reach out with
    great grace!
it is interesting isn't it..that when it comes right
down to it...it was the pharisee's of religion that
crucified many in the name of religion despite the
revelation that perhaps they could actually be killing
the son of god himself.....fearing they would be
    lessening their offering plates.
ears/Seattle thankyou for writing an honest direct poem.

For your interesting and enlightened comments, quite right it's all about jealousy, and a reluctance to accept the truth, funny, how it is still the same today as it was back then... thank you for taking time to read this poem, I appreciate it so much because it lies at the very basic roots of what I believe; it's good to know that someone out there understands
