In loving memory of my son Micheal Shane-
He died without first asking me if I would
mind it.
I remember when he died,
Was in the dead of night,
I remember how I cried-
His face so still and white...
I sensed his need to apologize,
To me for dying without first warning,
Yet he could not lift his eyes,
To face the greivous morning...
I yearend to make him understand,
That death was not his fault,
And grasped his cold white hand,
For hours and deep in thought...
When they planted him in his grave,
A mother's heart was beyond broken,
And the apolidgy he gave,
Within his heart was never spoken...
Walking away, leaving him behind,
Beneath fresh rose covered earth,
I staggered but was not drunk with wine,
And slapped my thighs, but not with mirth...
