Down by the river
Where the willow tree bends
And the sky leans down
To greet her friends
And the Earth extends
A welcoming hand;
They just seem to know
And understand
That when the days’ work’s done
And it’s time to rest
The moon and the sun
Share a common nest
And there’s nothing in this world
That transcends
The embrace of two lovers
When a long day ends

indeed when the day is done, there is relief for everyone. there is quality time for ourself anf family.
indeed, it more meaningful for the two lovers in love when the day ends.
so very romantic poem.. i like it very much.
congrats!!

Yes, it's kind of a special time of the day isn't it?
Quite amazing when you realise that when the day ends on one side of the world, it is waking up on the other!
Thanks for the comment friend!

This has a lovely, mellow tone and images. I like 'the moon and sun share a common nest' for the thoughts this gives me of the 'between', the interstice existing that is neither now nor then, the timeless place where lovers are together.

Thanks for the nice comments...interstice, that's an interesting word...for some reason or other I thought I saw myself looking through the eye of a pyramid to a distant star

A very beautiful poem.
Love the lines...
"And the sky leans down
To greet her friends"
I really love the perspective you have taken in writing this,
and I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Amen...
In Continuuem...
After the setting of the sun hung out to dry and left to dry and die in other men's green naieve- prophecies and propaganda...
let lovers live the exquisite death of togetherness unbled by soothsaysers and negative properties exuded by players...
from a Jack to King
Let all bells ring a dong dong
in fertile red-bloodied-soil
from the shores of the West
back to the longset pier of the the South
the Willow tree bends in deference
of mutual, equatible, majesty,
I am not the fire of 1976
I collect sticks only for warmth
and swim away from the fetid collusion
of embroinic test-tube ovulation
of purported fourth generation
perfection
Days end and we choose to mend, blend, or be born again, open, in the beauty of a fire lit by no other portents other than that of reality
it is then..
in that moment...
that we are fueled and fired to feel
and see beyond other's negativity...
to embrace a lover in all the intensity
that she deserves surely...

I'm not usually a person of brevity...
I, like you get really involved in the "epic sagas", or whatever yo wanna call them...lol however, once in a while something short and sweet drops by , and I must say, that they are just as exciting sometimes as the longer writes...
I really enjoy your method of respoding...with your own verse and introspective words, I too tend to do this a lot...it can be very encouraging as often, the reader sees something that the writer did not, and that, I find exciting too!
thank you Yvette once more for your sincere support

lines 9-12 are my absolute favorite. you really close the gap between the timeless contrast of day and night. Such a simple observation yet so profound.

-
-
Very kind of you to say so...
encouraging comments always make you feel that what you're doing is somehow worth while, it's all about sharing and lifting one another up, thanks for helping me feel that way, John

Such simplicity can hold so much beauty, with all the darkness in this world, it is wonderful to see someone feeling and portraying the love that is the essence of us all. You create beauty by knowing beauty, obviously you have known the best kind. Best to you

Thank you kindly...
I sometmes wonder where the ability to appreciate beauty comes from...I think you have put in in the right words...John

Humblepye...
Great band[pie].
This was just a wonderful days end sort of piece.
Your name brought me to your work.
And for that I am glad.
Tom waits....and anything Irish....you have great taste..
I was born in Belfast and am partial to Van Morrison and the Chieftains....if I wasn't I would be thrown out of the Irish union....lol.
This had a real serenity feel to it...went perfect with my afternoon ale.
You have a mellow style which i really like...
...the moon and the sun share a common nest...
so peaceful...
Please help yourself to any piece you may see on my page,
so nice to see a poet on here that does not want to hurt or kill himself....lol
I search for sighs of poets here and Im so glad I found one.
Many blessings brother,
LOWELL POE.
